Week 2 - Material Properties : Marble

 MARBLE

What is the process of making the material: Marble is a rock resulting from metamorphism of sedimentary carbonate rocks, most commonly limestone or dolomite rock. Metamorphism causes variable recrystallization of the original carbonate mineral grains.

How long will the material last: 3-4 Centuries

What makes the material corrode: Industrial waste gases, acid rain

What are the material's structural pros and cons:
PROS: Attractive to the eye, stong and durable
CONS: Expensive, heavy, scatches ealisy

What is the material typically used for: sculptures and generally in construction, specifically the dimension stone trade, the term "marble" is used for any crystalline calcitic rock (and some non-calcitic rocks) useful as building stone.

What are the material's environmental impacts: Mining and shaping the marble has some environmental impacts due to the energy required
